Prohibited Use Policy

Our Platform is intended to help you (and your Organisation) with scientific research and you must engage with it in a responsible, legal and safe manner.

This Prohibited Use Policy applies to: (a) your use of our Platform; (b) any material you upload or share on our Platform or generate through our Platform; (c) any contact you make with other users in connection our Platform; and (d) any links to our Platform.

You must comply with this Prohibited Use Policy in spirit as well as to the letter. Expressions defined in the EULA and used in this Prohibited Use Policy have the meaning set out in the EULA. Reference to “include” or “including” shall be interpreted without limitation.

We will determine, in our discretion, whether your use of our Platform breaches this Prohibited Use Policy. You shall supervise, control and be responsible for any use of our Platform on your behalf. You shall (and will ensure that anyone accessing or using our Platform or any Outputs on your behalf shall):

  • comply with the terms of this Prohibited User Policy;
  • comply with all applicable laws, rules and regulations, including laws relating to data protection and privacy, sanctions and export controls and restrictions; and
  • include our copyright notices, cite the appropriate paper(s) and prominently credit Latent Labs in any Output on any medium.

You shall not (and will ensure that anyone accessing or using our Platform or any Outputs on your behalf shall not): use our Platform or any Outputs in any way that breaches any local, national or international law or regulation, or engage in any dangerous or illegal activities, including:

  • using our Platform for any illegal or unlawful purpose or to facilitate any illegal activities, for example synthesising or generating any proteins for illegal substances or goods, hazardous biomolecules or other potential real-world harms;
    • engaging in fraud or other deceptive actions, including facilitating any misleading claims of expertise or capability in an area (for example health) or claims related to harmful health practices;
    • attempting to access, search or create accounts for our Platform by any means other than our publicly supported interfaces or as otherwise authorised by us;
    • misrepresenting the provenance of generated content by claiming it was created solely by a human;
    • making decisions in domains that affect material or individual rights or wellbeing, for example healthcare;
    • violating the rights of others, including privacy and intellectual property rights, for example using personal data or biometrics without the necessary and legally-compliant consents;
    • using our Platform or Outputs in a way that: (a) is or could be harmful, threatening, defamatory, obscene, harassing or racially or ethnically offensive; (b) is or could be discriminatory based on race, gender, colour, religious belief, sexual orientation, disability; (c) promotes unlawful violence; or (d) is otherwise illegal or causes damage or injury to any person or property;
  • compromise our security or the security of other users, including by:
    • interfering with or gaining unauthorised access to our computer systems, networks or data, including forging any headers or other parts of any message describing its origin or routing, operating non-permissioned network services such as open proxies, mail relays or recursive domain name servers or, implementing denial-of-service attacks;
    • creating, storing, transmitting or distributing any malicious code, viruses, trojan horses, malware or other harmful or destructive programs or code;
    • interfering with or collecting any part of our Platform or Outputs by any automated means, including database scraping, web scraping, screen scraping, data mining or inference of the whole or any part of our Platform;
    • making excessive use of the bandwidth of our Platform in a way that may impact the use of our Platform by any other users, or exceeding any fair usage restrictions we put in place from time to time;
    • making alterations to, or modifications of, the whole or any part of our Platform, nor permit our Platform or any part of it to be combined with, or become incorporated in, any other programs;
    • disassembling, decompiling, disclosing, altering, enhancing, reverse engineering, reverse assembling, reverse compiling, circumventing the encryption or other security tools, modifying or creating derivative works based on the whole or any part of our Platform;
    • accessing or using (or attempting to access or use) the source code or object code compiled in our Platform, or in any materials compiled or made available via our Platform (including any metadata);
    • using any equipment, device, software or other means designed to circumvent or remove any copyright protection, security or encryption used by us in connection with our Platform;
  • circumvent, compromise (or attempt to circumvent or compromise) protections or other abuse of safety filters, including by:
    • coping, reselling, redistributing, renting, leasing, sub-licensing, loaning, translating, merging, adapting, varying or modifying our Platform or Outputs;
    • altering or removing any copyright or other propriety notices from our Platform or Outputs;
    • applying for copyright, trademark or patent protection in our Platform or any improvements thereto, filing any document with any government agency that would affect our ownership of our Platform, or aiding or assisting anyone else in doing so;
    • providing or otherwise making available our Platform in whole or in part (including but not limited to program listings, object and source program listings, object code and source code) in any form to any person without our prior written consent, other than (in the case of an Organisation) your employees and contractors for use on your behalf.
